********************** POST RACE UPDATE !! ******************
Well, after a total of 245 kilometres over ten weeks of training, I’ve completed my first official running event. I completed the 10k course on Sunday with a race time of of 52:13 — a personal best by a clear four minutes.
More importantly than my personal goals, with your help we raised $1698 for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre to provide material support and services to refugees in Australia. In total, 550 runners ran for the ASRC this year, raising over $200,000. Your support was a crucial part in reaching this goal.

I'm taking part in a 10k Run 4 Refugees as part of the Melbourne Marathon and hoping to raise much needed funds for Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).
For 13 years the ASRC has been fighting for the human rights of asylum seekers. Over 7000 people have been provided with sanctuary, support and hope by the ASRC in this time and thousands of people have won their freedom through their work.
I hope you're as proud as I am to take a positive step in providing support and assistance for some of Australia's most vulnerable people.
In the current climate, asylum seekers to Australia are routinely demonised by the media and our political leaders, villifed as "illegals", deprived of basic human rights and either locked away indefintiely or forcibly shipped offshore. Under such appalling circumstances, it is incredibly important to demonstrate that this is not the Australia we represent. We embrace the contribution and richness of life that people from all countries and cultures bring to our shores, regardless of the means by which they arrive here. We represent an Australia which is compassionate. We welcome people in need with open arms.

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
